Did you know that most wines are vegan? However, some of them are made using animal-derived substances during the filtering process, called “fining agents.” These filters sometimes include gelatin from fish bladders (called isinglass), casein (derived from milk), or bone marrow. Yuck! Thankfully, several common fining agents used to make wine are animal-friendly, which means that your local grocery, health-food, or liquor store and online retailers are overflowing with vegan wine options. Here’s a taste of some of our favorite vegan wines, all available in stores or online.

Cheers to vegan wine! Stella Rosa

These Stella Rosa options are vegan: Black, Red, Berry, Rosé, Peach, Pink, Green Apple, Platinum French Vanilla, Moscato, Tropical Mango, Prosecco, Black Lux, Pearl Lux, Pearl Lux Rosé, Orange Moscato, Pineapple, Watermelon, and Ruby Rosé Grapefruit.

Charles Shaw Red Wine Varieties

Charles Shaw, affectionately known as “Two-Buck Chuck,” offers budget- and vegan red wine options. The inexpensive brand’s red wine blends (cabernet sauvignon, shiraz, and merlot) are available at Trader Joe’s and—according to Barnivore.com—are vegan.

That means you can feel good about sipping any one of DAOU’s delicious reds, whites, or rosés, available in many major grocery stores. (Bonus tip: If you ever find yourself at the winery’s tasting room in Paso Robles, California, note that you’re vegan—the winery offers off-menu vegan snacks that are worth asking for!)

JUSTIN Wines

A tad on the expensive side, wines from Paso Robles favorite JUSTIN Wines are vegan and worth it. The brand confirmed to Barnivore.com in January 2019 that its wines are indeed still vegan. Pro tip: If you are new to JUSTIN Wines and don’t know which kind to choose, start with ISOSCELES, the brand’s flagship wine—it pairs well with a juicy Beyond Burger.
